Piña - Castellers de Vilafranca

In Catalonia, "Fer castells" it's an old tradition where strengh, balance and team work go hand to hand to rise a human tower towards the sky.

Most of the pictures that you can find about it are of the finished tower, but what you can see here is probably the most important step of the process. It's called "pinya" and its' the base of the "castell". Usually, the base is formed with not only the castellers but also with the help of volunteers from people watching them. The more people helping to form the "pinya", stronger it will be and, therefore, safer.

A trip back in time

Yesterday I went to Vic's anual Medieval Market. 

For four days, the whole town goes back to the times of castles and knights, with crafts, food, parades and activities from the medieval times.
